Astros lose the opener of the series with the NYM as Jon Matlack allows only 1 run in 8 IP. Hojo and Mazzilli lead the Mets to the 6-1 win. Houston then fights back for a late Rally in game 2; scoring 4 runs off the Mets bullpen staff of Ray Sadecki and Roger McDowell. Astros smacked 3 home runs, including the 5th of the year by Glenn Davis. Final Astros 9-8. Ken Forsch gets the win, Dave Smith closes out the final 2 innings in style. Game three saw the respective "aces" face off with Mike Scott at home vs. Doc Gooden; both pitched well but Scott was victorious. Scott was 1 out away from a CG, with 0 earned runs and 9 Ks. Gooden went the CG with 8 Ks in 8 innings. Jose Cruz Jr (.297, 6 SB) was a run producer with 2 RBI. Terry Puhl in is first start of the year, and back up SS Craig Reynolds knocked in the other runs in the 4-1 Houston win.
