Orioles take 2 of 3. Brian Harvey still upset at being called by the wrong name. Check out his, uh, performance in Game 1 where he never got an out in the 9th. The O’s were down 4-3 and Harvey was brought on to close out the game. A lead off single to Al Bumbry was followed by consecutive walks to Don Buford and Don Baylor to load the bases. Mr. Talkative, Eddie Murray, who specializes in grand-slams took the less explosive route for the walk off instead. Murray lined one right up the middle to score Bumbry and Buford as Harvey walked dejectedly off the mound.
In Game 2, Jim Palmer didn’t pitch great (7.1 IP / 4 ER), but he did pitch better than Witt (5 IP /6 ER). Brooks Robinson had 3 RBI’s and Ken Singleton had 2. California got homers from Wally “Absorbine” Joyner and Jim Fregosi, but still came up 2 runs short. Hoyt Wilhelm was shaky in relief, but still got the job done for his first save of the year.
California rallied from 3 down to tie the game up in the 6th. Homers by Don Baylor and Joyner squared the contest up. A sac fly by “Mr. October”, Reggie Jackson in the 8th scored Joyner to put the Halos up for good to salvage the final game of the 3 game set. Bryan Harvey pitched a perfect 9th to redeem himself for his game 1 gaffe.
