The Cardinals season continues to crumble after a nice start, as the Giants pretty much dominate a three game inter-divisional set. The Cardinals managed to eek out a 1-0 win in game two behind the efforts of Curt Simmons, Ernie Broglio, and Todd Worrell.
But other than that, it was just about all Giants. St. Louis did jump out to a 6-2 lead in game one, as Silent George Hendrick was inserted into the lineup against lefty starter Johnny Antonelli, and paid dividends by clubbing two home runs good for 5 RBI. But the Giants closed it to 6-4 in the 6th, and then Lindy McDaniel had a an 8th inning meltdown, giving up 5 earned runs to hand the game over to the Giants. The big blow was a two-out grand slam off the bat of shortstop Alvin Dark.
After the game two nail biter, the Giants made it look easy at home in game 3. They hit four home runs, including number 10 from the Say Hey Kid, Willie Mays, to overwhelm the Cardinals in a 9-1 route.
