Chisox take 2 of 3 from O's

Dave McNally vs Jack McDowell

Welcome back from the disabled list Jack McDowell said Baltimore’s first batter Don Baylor as he pasted one over the centerfield fence. Things did not look good for Jack McDowell. Did he comeback too soon from the DL?  After 6 it was 6-2 Baltimore. Don Baylor wanted to send Jack McDowell a message as he was 3 for 4 by the sixth with 2 homeruns. In the bottom of the 7th Bill Melton pinch hit a 3 run homer as part of a 5 run 7th for the Sox.  Jack McDowell pitched the 7th in total had 11 strikeouts. Eddie Fisher came in and shutdown the Orioles in the 8th and 9th.

La Mar Hoyt vs Mike Cuellar
This was a pitching duel 0-0 after 5. In the 6th Robin Ventura singled knocking in 2 runs as part of a 3 run inning. Eddie Murray’s single scored Baylor. In the ninth Boog Powell made it 3-2 with a solo homerun but Hoyt Wilhelm finished off any Baltimore comeback.

Joe Horlen vs Scott McGregor
Baltimore scored in every inning from the third through the eighth. This was in retribution for Cal Ripken being HBP and taken out of the game with an injury. Scott McGregor pitched a gem of a game allowing only 4 hits and 1 walk over 9 innings. Joe Horlen on the other hand allowed 14 hits and gave up 3 homeruns (Chris Hoiles, Brooks Robinson, Eddie Murray). Little used Chris Hoiles was his biggest nemesis he went 4 for 4 with 1 homerun and 2 RBIs.
